Notice
Talk to your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse before using Betadine. Occasionally, transient skin irritation may occur. Therefore, it is recommended to use Betadine solution for the first time on a trial basis on a small area of skin, and if no skin reaction occurs, regular use of the solution is possible. Discontinue use in case of skin irritation, contact dermatitis (inflammation of the skin caused by contact with allergens) or hypersensitivity.
This product may temporarily discolour the skin at the application site, which is due to the colour of the medicine. Do not heat the solution before application. Patients with stroma (enlarged thyroid gland), thyroid nodules, or other non-acute thyroid disease are at risk of developing increased thyroid function (hyperthyroidism) when given iodine.
In this patient population, iodinated povidone should not be administered unless accurately determined. Even after treatment is stopped, early signs of possible increased thyroid function should be monitored and thyroid function checked if necessary. The dark brown colour of the Betadine solution is a sign of its effectiveness. If the solution begins to discolour, its antimicrobial effectiveness decreases.
Decomposition of the solution is promoted by exposure to light and temperatures above 40 °C. Care should be taken to avoid getting Betadine 75 mg/ml Skin Solution in the eyes. If this happens despite all caution, it is necessary to rinse the eyes immediately with plenty of water. Avoid contact with jewellery, especially products containing silver.
