Capture everything with a single lens. The entire landscape panorama or interesting objects in the distance can be captured due to its extra-wide focal length range. It offers an incredible zoom ratio of 8.3x, it is only 8.7cm long and weighs about 300g. It is therefore easy to carry, yet can do the job of at least two lenses you would probably need to carry around with you. That makes this lens really universal for EOS M cameras.
The lens has an improved image stabiliser system that provides significantly enhanced movement reduction when handheld. This minimises the need for a tripod, and you can also afford to shoot at shutter speeds up to 4 degrees of EV slower. This means clearer details in low light conditions or at a lower ISO setting. Additionally, the system is able to co-operate with the 5-way stabilisation in the camera, resulting in enhanced stabilisation and extremely sharp and detailed images.
Its advanced optical design, with 17 elements arranged in 13 groups, ensures high image quality throughout the entire zoom range, which is a frequent weakness of lenses with such a zoom range. But not here. The optimal placement of the elements, where there is also one UD (Ultra Low Dispersion) and two aspheric lenses, minimises chromatic aberration and captures accurate contrast and colours. At the maximum focal length of the zoom, it can focus from 45cm, so you are able to zoom in to the maximum even for short distances.
