Felt was founded by motocross mechanic, Jim Felt, after he designed and built a triathlon bike for the motocross star Johnny O'Mara in 1980, who later won the California Times Championship. Jim moved to cycling and in 1994 founded Felt Bicycles, first under the patronage of Answers Products and since 2000, when he expanded to Europe, he has diversified his portfolio to include mountain bikes and BMXs.
