Spermidine is a polyamine compound found in cells, specifically ribosomes. It has various metabolic functions in the body. It was originally isolated from semen. Good sources of spermidine are ripened cheese, mushrooms, legumes or corn. This substance is abundant in the Mediterranean diet. Spermidine can protect the heart by lowering blood pressure.
Spermidine is currently the only supplement that is less than 97% pure. This is because dosing pure spermidine would be very difficult and pure spermidine is extremely expensive. The only thing added to spermidine is pure cellulose, which is basically just fiber.
