If you want a ladder for various garden work, then you should probably choose a ladder that would let you get on the roof, in hard to reach places, or in tree crowns. If you want to do things around the house, a folding ladder or a stepladder would be a better idea, since they don’t take up as much space and you can always keep them close at hand.

- Stepladders - Ideal for easier and safer work at lower height. Stepladders are easy to carry, stable, and highly practical. Great for businesses, but also for houses with high ceilings. Pretty much necessary when painting or installing appliances or fixtures.
- Steps - Are very portable and don’t take up valuable space. They can help you replace a light bulb, paint the walls, or get to difficult to reach places. Aren’t very tall, so your reach will be limited.
