KORG Modwave mk II

KORG Modwave mk II
Modwave presents two unique tools for creating dynamic motion. Kaoss Physics combines the x/y Kaoss pad with modulatable game physics to provide a responsive interactive controller. Motion Sequencing 2.0 brings the organic, ever-evolving Wave Sequencing 2.0 patterning from Wavestate to the world of motion sequencing, including multiple lanes and real-time recording. Powerful synthesizer with characteristic wavetable sounds, Kaoss Physics and Motion Sequencing 2.0. The second generation of modwave now comes with nearly double the polyphony, expanded free running LFOs and other features. In 1985, the KORG DW-8000 combined digital samples with rich analog filters to provide users with sounds that were impossible to create with analog oscillators. Modwave builds on DW's legacy and transforms it into a modern synthesizer with deep wavetable oscillators, filters, flexible modulation and complex pattern sequencing.

Wavetable synthesis and mkII enhancements
Wavetable synthesis brings a specific character of unique sounds. There are hundreds of preset sounds enhanced by this modern architecture, arranged by category buttons on the front panel. All are instantly customisable with four Mod drivers. The characteristic wavetable sounds start with aggressive bass and leads and end with lush ambient pads. Thanks to its unique architecture, you can store thousands of sounds, load custom samples, import wavetables in standard formats, and create custom wavetables using the free WaveEdit software. The modern modwave mkII offers 60 voices of polyphony. In response to user requests, all LFOs have been updated with free running, delayed start and restart options. There is also a pre/post switch for sending to reverb and new modulation sources.

Oscillators and program architecture
Wavetable oscillators contain more than 200 wavetables, each containing up to 64 waveforms. With more than 30 modifiers, you can change their basic character and process them in real time using 13 morph types. The A/B Blend feature allows you to create new hybrids from any two wavetables in real time. The palette can be expanded by importing new wavetables using Editor/Librarian, using libraries in Serum format, or creating your own in WaveEdit. Wavetable can be layered with samples from the built-in PCM library or import up to 4GB of custom samples using Korg Sample Builder software. Each Program has two full-size wavetable oscillators, a sub-oscillator/noise generator and any of the stereo filter types, including MS-20, Polysix and the enhanced Multi Filter. Parameters can be animated using a modulation system with four trigger envelopes, five LFOs, two modulation processors and two keyboard track generators.

Kaoss Physics and Motion Sequencing 2.0
Kaoss Physics uses a model of a ball rolling on a surface and bouncing off the walls. The surface can be tilted in any direction and the variable height protrusion attracts or repels the ball. Adjustable friction slows the ball and a time parameter controls the speed of the model. The ball position generates eight different modulation signals that can be used to control modulation targets. The walls can slow the ball down or speed it up, or the walls can be removed so that the ball appears at the opposite end. Motion Sequencing divides the timing, pitch, shape and four values of step sequences into individual loops, each with its own loop start and end. The loop points of each line can be modulated for each note separately using the Velocity, LFO, Envelope or Mod Knobs. Lines can randomly change the order of steps on each playback, and individual steps can be randomly skipped with modulatable probability.

Wavetable technology and filters
Wavetables are sets of single-cycle digital waveforms arranged in a specific order. The position in the wavetable determines which waveform is played. Shifting the position using the envelope or LFO creates colour changes. Modifiers allow you to change the character of the wavetable, for example to isolate harmonics or add saturation. The 13 morph types allow you to expand, compress and reflect wave tables in real time. Using A/B mode, the oscillators can interleave any two wavetables with phase synchronization accuracy. The sounds can be given a vintage character with the MS-20 Lowpass or Highpass and Polysix Lowpass filters. A collection of resonant 2-pole and 4-pole Lowpass, Highpass, Bandpass and Band Reject filters are available. The KORG Multi Filter creates modulatable mixes of multiple modes simultaneously. Each layer has three dedicated effects and sends to the main Performance reverb. Compressors are available, equalizers, choruses, flangers, phasers, stereo delays and processors like the Wave Shaper, Talking Modulator, Reverse Delay, Multiband Mod Delay and Overb.

Control and software integration
Oscillators, filter, envelope, LFO and effects are all accessible via front panel controls. Four programmable Mod Knobs can be customized for each sound. The button with the cube icon generates new sounds using intelligent randomization. Symmetrical stereo outputs for connection to a recording or monitoring system, stereo headphone output for quiet playing. MIDI DIN connectors and USB MIDI connections ensure compatibility with other devices and computers. The modwave library editor allows you to edit and organize sounds on your Windows or macOS computer. Set lists offer Performances organization and Smooth Sound Transitions allow for natural reverberation of sounds when switching. Modwave native is a fully compatible software counterpart to the hardware synthesizer available in VST3, AAX and standalone formats. Sounds can be seamlessly exchanged between hardware and software. Also included is a music software package including Ozone Elements and Skoove.
