Sherlock Holmes
Sir Arthur Doyle created the immortal literary character of Sherlock Holmes, a brilliant private detective who loves to employ his wits and intuition to solve mysterious crime cases. His great help is Dr Watson, the character who tells the detective stories. Both characters and their stories have survived in the consciousness of readers for more than a century. Moreover, Sherlock Holmes is the only literary figure to have a biography written and one of the few characters in whose honour a number of societies have been established. In our country it is the Czech Sherlock Holmes Society. Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories are timeless. Moreover, today's readers and listeners are drawn to the charm of the old days, the atmosphere of Victorian London, and the characteristic composition of these mysteries, in which they stay in touch with good old England.
