A sign pointing to the heavens
The first volume of this new series presents a record of interviews with Professor Jan Heller, which were broadcast between 2003 and 2006. They represent the rich life and professional 'harvest' of this renowned Czech biblical scholar and Old Testament expert. Professor Heller explains things in his own specific way. He assumes an uninformed reader, so he also includes facts familiar to regular Bible readers, but on the other hand, he does not spare the reader and requires an active approach: he wants the reader to think with him and to contemplate what is suggested. Despite his unique kindness and sensitivity to human weaknesses, he does not shy away from radical statements against hypocrites, the powerful who abuse their positions, or various religious fraudsters. He is not afraid to profess his personal faith, but he does so with inner conviction, non-ideologically, and with deep life experience. In the academic passages, he very often draws on his extensive knowledge of religious studies, thus shedding new light on biblical texts. The interviews with Professor Heller are very dynamic; they have gained a wide circle of radio listeners and will certainly serve well those who wish to reflect more deeply on their topics.
Petr Vaďura (an external collaborator with Czech Radio and TWR) conducted the radio interviews about biblical texts with the author.
