A syllable and its boundaries in Czech

The book provides a comprehensive analysis of the syllabicisation of Czech. The general part gives the most up-to-date and detailed overview of the syllable, its nature, role and position in the language, and the syllabication is discussed in a similar way. The authors then offer their own view of syllable boundary determination, which, although applied to Czech, can be used in other languages due to its generality. The experiments and phonotactic analyses conducted explore syllable boundaries within the four basic aspects of the sound side of language - in terms of articulation, acoustics, perception and phonology. Based on the findings, the authors conclude by establishing a phonetically and phonologically informed model of syllabification including both preferential and categorial rules for determining syllable boundaries in Czech.
