About Something Else - DVD

Vera Chytilová's debut feature is a confrontation of the fates of two women, one of whom lives for her family and the other for performance sports. Gymnast Eva Bosáková, whose cast makes the fictional story feel like a documentary, has sacrificed her privacy for years to achieve peak athletic performance and looks forward to one day making up for it all.

On the other hand, Vera, who has been focusing on her family and household, is again dissatisfied because of her lack of self-fulfilment. Both women, like the heroine of The Ceiling, ask themselves the question of the meaning of life, but it turns out, that in the moment, when they could realize their dream of "something different", are voluntarily returning to their former way of life, because they're starting to suspect that that's where they belong.
