About trees and birds

The book On Trees and Birds was originally published under the title Serviceberry. This tree was at its beginning. Botanist Robin Wall Kimmerer harvested its fruits, observing the birds and reflecting on the relationship between them and the flycatchers. She realized that while the flycatchers live in a gift economy system, we humans are fully immersed in a market economy. It is driven by a sense of scarcity and competition and actively destroys what we really need to live.
