Allen, Tony: Source (2017) (2x LP) - LP

Drummer Tony Allen hails from Nigeria and at the age of 77 is one of the classics of modern African music. Tony Allen entered the history of African music together with saxophonist Fela Kuti. Together, they created an original synthesis of American jazz with African styles 40 years ago, resulting in the current style known as afrobeat. Tony Allen' s playing skills are well illustrated by a story from the past: when he set out on his own journey, saxophonist Fela Kuti allegedly had to hire four drummers to replace him.

While Fela Kuti died in 1997, Tony Allen is still active and his vitality still amazes listeners two generations younger. In addition, Afrobeat has been revivaling in recent years and has become a generous inspiration for a young generation of musicians far beyond the borders of Africa. It is played in New York, Los Angeles and Amsterdam.

The album “Source“ is his latest recording, which was released on September 8, 2017.
