Alphonse Daudet: Leaves from my mill

Daudet's Letters from My Mill of 1872 is the author's first prose work, and an extremely successful one at that. Alphonse Daudet fled to his mill in the Provence region to escape the hustle and bustle of Parisian life. South French Provence breathed the nostalgia of his childhood on him. Alphonse Daudet (1840-1897) was famous as a novelist and playwright. He alternated stays in Paris and in his native Provence, in the vicinity of Arles and the Fontvielle mill. His fame was secured by his collection of poems, The Lovers (1858), but the success of Letters from My Mill led him to prose. His next successful book was a humorous trilogy about the character of Tartarin of Tarascon. Daudet's fresh style became one of the models of French modern prose. Performers: Karel Höger, Felix Le Breux, Josef Vošalík, Miroslav Homola, Rudolf Pellar, Karel Urbánek, Antonín Zíb, Eduard Kohout, Josef Gruss, Sobeslav Sejk, Jaromir Spal, Vladimir Hlavatý, Irena Kačírková, Otomar Korbelář, František Filipovský and Josef Bejvl.
