American Beauties

Another teen story from the author of the cult novel Youth in the Crapper

The main characters - two fifteen-year-old sisters - are identical twins, which in itself offers a plethora of comic situations as they begin their first love relationships and try to find their own identity in contemporary America. However, the two sisters' lives are complicated not only by their growing up and their different personalities, but also by the fact that their father - a hypocritical Baptist pastor - decides to run for vice-president of the USA for the Republican Party. Media attention is focused on them, the sisters become celebrities to watch, a security guard takes up residence in their house and a crazy plot full of unexpected twists and turns begins.
Readers who enjoyed the narrative style and humour of C. D. Payne's previous bestsellers, they certainly won't be disappointed when reading American Beauty.
