Belfiato Quintet: Music for wind Instruments - CD

The Belfiato Quintet is another high card among Czech chamber ensembles on the international stage. The members of the young wind quintet play in leading orchestras (Czech Philharmonic, Philharmonia Orchestra, etc.) and have individually and as an ensemble been decorated with valuable competition trophies (Kateřina Javůrková's victory at the ARD Munich Competition, a gold for the BQ from a competition in Semmering, Austria, etc.). However, they don't let it go to their heads; above all, their playing and performances radiate the message: "We love doing this!". They waited 12 years for this, their first studio recording, and have dedicated it exclusively to Czech composers from the first half of the 20th century. J. B. Foerster composed his Wind Quintet (and in it, his most-played instrumental opus) in 1909, commissioned by a virtuoso ensemble founded within the Vienna Philharmonic. A work 20 years younger by Janáček's pupil, Pavel Haas, bears traces of Janáček's and folk inspiration, but also the influence of Stravinsky. When listening, one cannot help but once again mourn the immense talent prematurely silenced in the Auschwitz concentration camp. Janáček's sextet, Mládí (Youth), was written just five years earlier; a piece of music full of vitality, which dominates over longing and melancholy – one would hardly guess its author was 70 years old. Mládí (Youth); how fitting for the Belfiato Quintet, an ensemble full of energy and inspiration!

Josef Bohuslav Foerster (1859–1951) – Wind Quintet Op. 95, Pavel Haas (1899–1944) – Wind Quintet Op. 10, Leoš Janáček (1854–1928) – Mládí (Youth), Wind Sextet
