Black and White World

A social novel and one of the most successful American books of recent years. A deep and moving story set in the American South of the 1960s, it is told through the eyes of three exceptional women. In an era of prevailing racial segregation, a young white woman, Miss Skeeter, with the help of the wise Aibileen and the formidable Minny, decides to show the world through the eyes of black maids, turning the town and the way women – mothers, daughters, carers, friends – see each other upside down. Beyond the issues of racism and the position of women in society lies a deeper message about boundaries, both real and those that exist in our minds.
