Black-headed Gull
Vienna at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the blue Danube, Strauss waltzes and one courageous young woman living in a hostile time. Marianna would like to spread her wings, but social conventions bind her to marriage, securing the family line, and supporting her husband, Adolf Landsberger, a successful textile entrepreneur. Through her memories as an old woman who took refuge with her son in post-war Ireland, we follow not only the fate of Marianna herself, but also the people she loved and lost. The Danube Seagull is a novelistic fresco that brings to life the true story of a Jewish industrialist family, but it is also the intimate testimony of a sensitive and thoughtful woman.
