Mention the name Neprakta, and you get the same reaction as when you mention Lada. Everyone knows who and what you're talking about. And anyone who sees a drawing with the characteristic bold outlines and distinctly humorous theme will not hesitate for a moment to name the author. This is how Jiří Winter, alias Neprakta, became so widely known. For over half a century, he filled magazines, newspapers, and books with caricatures, cartoon jokes, and illustrations. He has over 35,000 published drawings to his name, has illustrated more than 350 books, and also worked on scientific illustrations, poster design, and animated films. There was hardly a topic or theme he didn't tackle, and thanks to this, he managed to reach milestones that few cartoonists could dream of – he became a household name, a benchmark, and now a classic. Throughout his life, he collaborated with a number of remarkable and interesting people, but his most famous and longest-lasting collaboration (over 25 years) was with Miloslav Švandrlík, whose books he illustrated and from whom he drew inspiration for his drawings. He has already recounted his life experiences in countless interviews for newspapers, magazine profiles, and in commentaries for book explorations of his work. However, one confession was still missing – the Master's personal memoirs. The book compiled from them by his last long-term collaborator, Jaroslav Kopecký, will unfortunately be published after his passing, but the Master had time to authorise it and – where necessary – add to and clarify it. It tells a continuous story of his entire life, contemporary events, his friends, his work, hobbies, and collecting passions, and also discusses the principles and views that guided his artistic work.
