Borderline personality disorder and its treatment
The publication focuses on one of the most common personality disorders that significantly impairs the quality of life, especially for young people – It prevents them from studying, working, interacting with peers, and establishing and maintaining relationships. The disorder is characterized by high suicidality, unstable relationships with close people, problems with maintaining employment, and high psychiatric comorbidity, i.e. frequent co-occurrence of other psychological problems.
The monograph deals with the diagnosis, etiopathogenesis and treatment of this serious disorder. Emphasis is also placed on the description of comorbidity, differential diagnosis and social aspects including stigma and self-stigmatization. A significant part is devoted to psychotherapeutic approaches to people suffering from borderline personality disorder and pharmacological treatment, including current algorithms.
Expert descriptions are supplemented by numerous case histories that illustrate both the problems of people with this personality disorder and the principles of psychotherapeutic intervention. The book is intended for clinical professionals, especially psychiatrists and clinical psychologists, but also for counsellors who work with people with borderline personality disorder in a diagnostic, therapeutic or counselling capacity.
