The guitar, in its various forms, has most of all defined the development of music in the last half-century. The classical guitar is then the instrument that fundamentally determined Lubomír Brabec's life path. If we talk about his travels, his concert tours took him literally all over the world, not excluding China or Antarctica. After his previous successful CD Guitar Solo Collection (SU 3964-2) with solo repertoire, Lubomír Brabec has now compiled an attractive and colourful selection of the most beautiful guitar concertos from his rich Supraphon discography. Who wouldn't love the Concierto de Aranjuez by blind composer Joaquín Rodrigo, influenced by the strong Spanish folk tradition of the instrument. Lubomír Brabec, however, fell most in love with the irresistible Italian temperament of Antonio Vivaldi and the works of other Baroque composers (here Handel and Weiss); here the soloist borrowed a part for his instrument originally intended for the lute. Italian Baroque returns once more as an inspiration at the end of the CD in Luboš Fišer's two catchy melodic pieces.
