In war-torn Belgrade in 1941, furious friends Marko and Blacky were involved in the arms trade and other scams. Because they skillfully combine their not-so-honest business with guerrilla raids, they will soon gain a reputation as heroic freedom fighters. When Blacky has to start hiding one day, Marko hides them and other refugees in his grandfather' s cellar. The war continues, more refugees are born, children are born and an autonomous world is slowly being created in the cellar. When peace returns in 1944, Marko keeps the other inhabitants of the cellars in ignorance - partly because that he achieved a high political position in Tito' s Yugoslavia with the reputation of a hero, on the one hand, that he doesn' t want to share beautiful Natalia with Blacky, which they both love. Fifteen years will pass before the first cellar people come to the surface - but that' s not the end of the whole story
