Bridge Too Far - DVD
In August 1944, Paris was liberated. However, the army lacked a sufficient supply. General Montgomery devised a plan called Market Garden: Market - Air Force, Garden - Ground Forces. The main task was to conquer and maintain three bridges in the Netherlands (Aidhoven, Nijmegen and Arnhem) across the Rhine. The whole event is complicated by the terrain possibilities of landing transport planes, soldiers have to parachute and move to Arnhem, 12 km away. The ground forces at Nijmegen need to control both sides of the bridge, they can only get to the other side of the river by boats, under fire from German defenders. The overall situation is not going well for the Allies.
