Budoár staré dámy: Salt - LP

Brno's alternative rock icon, Budoár staré dámy, is releasing their new, fifth album on both CD and LP (beautiful yellow vinyl). These are urgent songs you either have to listen to, or turn off. The new Budoár staré dámy record is called Sůl (Salt) and it came together slowly, as is often the case when new babies are born and houses are built within a band. The writer, singer, and guitarist Marta Kovářová describes its creation:

"Songs no longer have a chance to be created when I'm home alone with my guitar. Now someone will always be home! I'm no longer Svobodová and I have two children. I compose quietly, in my head, on the way to the train, while breastfeeding. The setting is not Brno, but a village in a frost hollow." The lyrics reveal a greater perspective and broader outlook; they're less drowned in tears and look around them rather than within.

In addition to Marta's own lyrics, the album features, for example, a musical setting of a text by the poet Karel Šiktanc, Lubor Kasal, the artist Paul Klee, and two recipes for strange dishes. The music is also less melancholic and more playful compared to the last two albums. It's as if Budoár has been aired out, but without abandoning their original, homemade recipe. The salted material was mixed by Ondřej Ježek at Jámor studio. The original CD and LP cover was designed by Marta Kovářová herself. The band emerged from a boiler room in Brno in 1998, has gone through a number of changes, but alternative rock has kept pace with them throughout their existence. Untrained expression, shouting, normal clothes. Suitable for any age as a personal discovery.
