Literary inspiration: * Le petit prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, ** The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe, *** Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf, **** Gurbet by Miljenko Jergović Singer, accordionist and composer Vesna Cáceres has introduced herself to the Czechs since the 1990s. audience through a variety of projects. She appeared on the jazz scene as a distinctive Latin-jazz singer, who with her band Ánima introduced the Czech audience to the lesser-known music world of Brazil, Cuba and other Latin American countries, as well as her own work in these styles. The live performances include the fragile poetry of bossa nova, euphoric Cuban rhythms, and the swaying swing, sung in the original languages.
Another musical genre in which Vesna creates is chanson, and she is one of the few who accompanies the accordion. He sings his own songs, and also creates original versions of folk songs of various nations. From the world of chanson, a direct path led to the theater. Vesna is a composer and performer of stage music, which intensifies emotions, intensifies the plot and touches the heart. Among the theatrical performances, it is worth mentioning, for example, “Tonka Šibenica“ directed by Jaroslav Dušek, “Marital Murder“ directed by Jan Hřebejko or “Bloody Wedding“ directed by Ondřej Zajíc.
In her new, eleventh album, Le bal des fleurs (The Ball of Flowers), Vesna gave the lead role to an accordion, which previously - though richly - only accompanied her chanson singing. Inspired by the minimalist mood of Erik Satie and the rhythms of the Paris valse musette, her music sometimes seems like a peculiar answer to Yanna Tiersen, but here both Vesna and as a composer and as a performer follow her distinctive individual path. Listeners who know the artist' s work to date will again - and this is not the first time - be surprised by her new musical expression. The Ball of Flowers is a series of sound images that intertwine in a colourful kaleidoscope of shade and colour. Some compositions echo literary impulses. A little aside are two bonus tracks, where the author steps away from the minimalism of the album and gives space to a more complicated musical form - these songs may indicate a new direction in her work.
