Coastal path

It was only a few days ago that Raynor learned that her husband, Moth, was suffering from a terminal illness. And they've just lost their house and with it their jobs. They have almost nothing left - not even time. And so they decide to embark on a journey of a thousand miles. They want to walk the South West Coast Path, which runs along the English coast, from Somerset through Devon and Cornwall to Dorset. They wander through the coastal landscape, along the cliffs between the sea and the sky, carrying only the essentials in their backpacks. With each step, each encounter and each difficulty they face, a simple walking expedition becomes a pilgrimage of a lifetime.

"Our world was changing, its edges fading as the road took us between sea, rocks and sky. It was as if we were gradually merging with the wilderness and the path we were walking seemed to carry us somewhere else. ”

The description of their journey is brutally honest. Raynor and Moth are often hungry, with nowhere to wash, and others turn away from them with suspicion. At the same time, they are still able to appreciate the beauty of the surrounding landscape. Their journey is also a path to self-awareness, to the pure experience of the most basic things, to hope. Raynor and Moth are a middle-aged couple who run a family farm in Wales. They repaired it together and raised their children there. But because of a bad investment, they lose everything from one day to the next and find themselves homeless. Just a few days later, they learn that Moth suffers from a rare degenerative disease. As they ponder what to do, Raynor remembers a book she once read and the couple spontaneously decide to walk along the south-west coast of England - a marked route of about a thousand miles. With their last money, they buy a used tent and two backpacks and just go. All the time he has to subsist on only forty-eight pounds a week.
