Conductor Zdeněk Košler speaks
We commemorate the 90th anniversary of the birth of the important Czech conductor Zdeněk Košler (1928-1995) with a radio interview from 1978"To Zdeněk Košler on his fiftieth birthday" with a number of musical excerpts. Karel Mlejnek talks with Zdeněk Košler about the work of a conductor.
Zdeněk Košler was born on 26 March 1928 in Prague. He studied music theory and composition privately with O. Jeremias, after the war he continued his studies in composition with J. Řídký and conducting with P. Grandpa. In 1948-1952 he studied at the conducting department of the Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts under K. Ančerl and R. Brock. He has often been awarded at international conducting competitions. The most significant was the 1st prize in the D competition. Mitropoulos in New York in 1963, which earned him a year as Leonard Bernstein's assistant in the New York Philharmonic. During his career Zdeněk Košler has collaborated with more than sixty orchestras from all over the world.
