Death to the Emperor
Furious Resistance in Britain: Boudica Rises Against Roman Power
In AD 60, Roman rule over the province of Britannia is fragile, but in distant Rome, Emperor Nero is unaware of the looming danger. Clashes with hostile tribes are causing chaos in the west of the province, prompting Governor Gaius Suetonius Paulinus to assemble a large army. He entrusts Prefect Cato with the command of one of the cohorts, while Centurion Macro is to take charge of the military veterans in Camulodunum. Suetonius ignores warnings that the poorly fortified colony will fall to an attack if only remnants of the army remain in the lowlands. The king of the hitherto friendly Iceni tribe dies, and his widow, Boudica, ascends to the throne. After the proud kingdom becomes a target of Roman pillaging and annexation, Boudica, a woman with the heart of a warrior, begins to call for the emperor's death. In the ensuing bloodshed, Macro and Cato must each fight relentless battles on their own against enemies who would rather die than submit to Roman rule.
The Eagle's Prophecy is the twenty-first volume in the author's Eagles of the Empire series.
Simon Scarrow
Simon Scarrow is a British author of historical novels. He was born in Nigeria in 1962 and subsequently lived with his parents in several other countries. He is famous for his series of, to date, sixteen novels about the Roman legionaries Macro and Cato, all of which have also been published in Czech. In addition, Scarrow is the author of the four-part Revolution series set during the Napoleonic Wars, the novels The Stone Heart and Sword and Scimitar, and the Gladiator trilogy for young adults. Together with T.J. Andrews, he has written two series of short stories initially published as e-books, Arena and Invader, and with Lee Francis, the thriller Playing with Death. Simon Scarrow has two sons and lives in Norfolk.
