Demons of the Balkan War

The graphic novel Demons of the Balkan War is based on the true events described in Vladimír Dzuro's bestseller, The Investigator. The story takes place during the war in the former Yugoslavia and the subsequent investigation and prosecution of war criminals. Among other things, the book aims to illustrate the senselessness of the war itself, the monstrosity of ethnic violence, and the danger of fake news in the media, even for readers who have not yet come across Vladimír Dzuro's extensive work.
Vladimír Dzuro was the first and, for a long time, the only Czech on the team of the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague. He was tasked with investigating war crimes committed by Serbs in Croatia and western Bosnia. Therefore, logically, neither the graphic novel nor the original book offers a comprehensive view of the entire conflict, but rather describes the sequence of events that led to the arrest of the very first war criminal since the end of the Second World War and significantly helped to kick-start the process of coming to terms with a bloody past and punishing the culprits.
The main author and initiator of the entire Demons of the Balkan War graphic novel project is Jan Kužník.
