Diagnosis and therapy of ADHD
ADHD in adult ADHD patients and clients (in the context of dual diagnoses, their diagnosis and treatment) is an increasingly prominent clinical and research topic. It is gradually becoming apparent that it is probably not only behind the significant increase in some types of addiction, but also behind many complications, conflicts or dangerous situations during the diagnostic and treatment process. It increases the risk of dropping out of treatment and places a greater burden on both clients and patients and staff.
The book is based on the results of one of the largest clinical projects in Europe, which focused on adult clients receiving treatment in therapeutic addiction communities. It summarizes current knowledge of the epidemiology, etiology and clinical presentation of ADHD. At the same time, it presents the available tools for diagnosis (for the first time, among other things, it also discusses the DIVA 2.0 tool in Czech), treatment experiences and the management of this dual diagnosis in addiction treatment programmes.
A significant contribution of the publication is the mapping of ADHD from many perspectives:
• the development and evolution of ADHD from a personality development perspective
• gender differences
• ADHD and individual addictive substances
• ADHD and addictions (smoking, gambling, pathological eating habits, etc. )
• ADHD and other mental illness disorders
• diagnostics, pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy
• treatment in a therapeutic community
The book is valuable for professionals in psychiatry or psychology, but also in nursing and helping professions. It provides an important set of information about a diagnostic combination that we will encounter more and more frequently.
