Diary of a parish priestess

About life somewhere between heaven and earth

"Oh, my God! All this happened in three years?"
God's ways are unpredictable and the unconventional parish priest Martina Viktorie Kopecká knows it. For most of her life it did not look like she would aspire to serve in the Church - and yet today she is a prominent figure in the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. The book edition of the Pastor's Diary blog brings together entries from the past three years and takes the reader through the entire church year, which begins with Advent. What is it like to be a woman priest? What did she have to give up for the service? What is she thinking about, what does she think paradise looks like, and what would Jesus tell us if he lived in today? What prejudices do they have to deal with in life? In the book you will find reflections, that are far from just about religion, but also tales of travels around the world, incidents both possible and quite impossible, photos, excerpts from interviews, memories of the meeting, that almost changed the young parish priest's life. You will also read her sermons, dreams and questions that are not easy to answer. The book was written during a pandemic, and so it does not shy away from the themes of the fragility of life, death and the attempt to understand what is happening in our society, where faith has gone and where to find solid ground.

Martina Viktoria Kopecká

Parish priest of the Czechoslovak Hussite Church. She was born in 1986 in Louny, but for quite a few years her mail has been coming to the centre of Prague. In addition to theology, she also studied psychology and special education to add the human soul (and neurophysiology) to her teachings on the Spirit. She describes herself as a perpetual student, so she is currently working on her doctoral thesis and completing further psychotherapy training. For the tenth year, he has been serving God and the people at St. Nicholas on Old Town Square and also in a small chapel in Strašnice in Prague. In 2013, she was elected to the Central Executive Committee of the World Council of Churches in South Korea, and during her eight years in office in Geneva, she has found that ecumenism - inter-church cooperation and interfaith dialogue - is her way of life. Her role as a parish priest goes beyond - or rather complements - her many other roles, for example as president of the Meeting Brno festival or as an Ambassador of Good Will for the Czech Republic.
