Differential diagnostics in paediatric practice
In clinical practice, it is necessary to be able to make decisions that are both considered and appropriately quick. This skill is particularly important when diagnosing a paediatric patient, where time plays a crucial role not only in acute situations but also, given the developing nature of the organism, in non-acute problems. In such cases, a delayed diagnosis can irreversibly harm the patient later in life. However, decision-making algorithms cannot be comprehensively learned during undergraduate studies, and even after starting medical practice, they require a certain amount of time to master. This publication offers a unique overview of the most common diagnostic problems from various fields of paediatrics that a paediatrician will encounter in their outpatient or hospital practice.
This monograph was created in collaboration with selected departments of the Third Faculty of Medicine at Charles University that care for children and adolescents. The content is designed to be concise and schematic, helping especially new paediatricians to quickly and correctly diagnose a patient. This provides interested professionals with a tool for understanding based on hundreds of scientific publications, supplemented by the professional experience of the authors.
