DMO Stays is a non-profit organization that organizes rehabilitation, spa, sports and sightseeing stays for adults diagnosed with cerebral palsy. This disease causes irreversible brain damage, movement disorders, problems in gross and especially fine motor skills, communication problems and, in severe cases, mental retardation or epilepsy. In terms of personal assistants, the organization operates on the principle of volunteering. Her assistants therefore provide personal assistance 24 hours a day without the right to financial remuneration. Probably for this reason, he has been facing a shortage for the second year in a row, and the harder it is to find and involve such people. The organization organizes stays about 3-4 times a year. Each client has an assigned assistant, he usually shares a room with him, is at his hand, when he needs help with something (whether dressing, food preparation, slicing, feeding, or with the help of the toilet), but most of all he is his friend. Everyone tries to spend time together during the stays, because for most clients this is the only way to get among people, to friends and have a space to have fun. Likewise, when an assistant needs help with something, he can tell anyone and he will not meet with rejection. The organization organizes stays mostly in the Czech Republic, in the summer it goes abroad. In 2016, it was Croatia, a year later the thermal baths in Hungary, where they returned in 2019. Through discussions and lectures at schools, they try to bring enlightenment among the youngest generations. They show that living with a disability is not so different from their lives and that disability does not have to be an obstacle to a full time spent. With the book “We Are Not from Another Planet“, he breaks down stereotypes in a well-established society. The book presents the life and work of Kateřina Maxová, the founder of the association, who decided to help people with cerebral palsy despite her disability.
