Dula

The aging writer Mojmír never accepted divorce. Behind the mask of a jaded cynic is a disappointed, painful and insecure man who has never forgiven his wife Hedwig for leaving him when he needed her most. His own daughters don't want to see him much, and so the central place in his life is currently occupied by a doula (whom readers may know as the narrator of Michal Viewegh's previous novels Biomanželka and Biomanžel). She is a kind of Mojmir's assistant, without whom he cannot do without, but whom he also constantly belittles and insults. So when Mojmir's friend Felix, who was supposed to accompany him on a holiday to the Maldives, suddenly dies, the writer decides not to cancel the trip - and to invite his indispensable opinionated opponent. After that, it only takes a few drinks of alcohol to start something Mojmir never planned in his wildest dreams...
