The war drama follows the evacuation of besieged French, British and Belgian soldiers from the beaches of northern French Dunkirk in the spring of 1940.
The film' s story, which gradually unfolds on land, at sea and in the air, follows the fate of several hundred thousand British and Allied soldiers in a hostile siege on the beaches near Dunkirk. The defenseless men beneath them are trying to protect the Royal Air Force Spitfires as they employ the enemy in the clouds. Meanwhile, hundreds of small vessels with soldiers and civilians at the helm set out on a rescue mission. In a desperate attempt to save at least a fraction of the imprisoned army, their crews in the race against time put their own lives at stake.
