Béla Bartók was a world-famous Hungarian composer of the 20th century. He gained world importance not only as a composer, but also as an excellent pianist and renowned music scientist.

From 1940 he lived in exile in the USA. Together with Leoš Janáček and Zoltán Kodály, he is one of the composers whose significant source of inspiration was folk music.

He had major health problems as a child. He therefore started going to school later and his grammar school studies in Velký Varadín (Nagyvárad) had to be interrupted.
