Environmental safety in the Czech Republic

This publication represents the initial exploration of the perception of environmental threats within the discipline of security studies in the Czech Republic. The analysis utilises a modified and updated securitisation framework based on the traditional concept of the Copenhagen School of security studies. This framework is commonly associated with two specific methods—the congruence method and process-tracing—which also form the basic methodological tools of this work. The research convincingly demonstrates the successful securitisation of a number of environmental topics in the Czech Republic. A detailed study on the degradation of agricultural land serves as an example of the state and development of the perception of a specific environmental threat.
