Long Live the Free Republic of Žižkov!
In December 2022, we will commemorate the 140th anniversary of the birth of the “last Žižkov bohemian,” Franta Sauer. For this occasion, the Prague 3 Municipal District has prepared an audio premiere of Sauer's book “Franta Habán from Žižkov”, in which the author autobiographically describes his memories of the end of the monarchy and the first years of Czechoslovakia. The humorous narrative covers both his fateful meeting with Jaroslav Hašek and the tearing down of the Marian column on the Old Town Square, as well as the famous re-enactment of the Battle of Vítkov.
