Almost everyone knows the simple but wise grandmother of Božena Němcová. When she arrives at her daughter's house in the countryside, she is immediately liked by her grandchildren and becomes a mentor to the neighbours and to the Princess herself. Through the eyes of young Barunka, the story depicts the light and dark side of human fate in the picturesque Czech countryside with all its customs and traditions, inspired by the author's childhood memories.
