Habermannův Mlýn - DVD

Legendary director Juraj Herz decided to open one of the most controversial chapters in Czech history, the post-war expulsion of the Germans, in which righteous anger often mingled with the lowest instincts and together they created an indelible bloody trail. One of the victims of history written by the winners was to be the German industrialist Habermann, who lived with his family in northern Moravia. The circumstances of its end remain unclear to this day. The film' s story was only loosely inspired by his life, but he presents the paradoxes of the craziest years of the twentieth century in a terribly perfect way.

Life before the war on the border was not twice idyllic. Time has asked you to lean to one side or the other, and only the strongest can stay on top of things. These included the wealthy businessman August Habermann (Mark Waschke), who gave work to Czechs and Germans without prejudice, and his closest friend Březina (Karel Roden). After the integration of the Sudetenland into the Third Reich, the pressure intensified, at this point personified by the SS Koslowski (Ben Becker). Nevertheless, Habermann continues to create a protective shield for his Czech employees and refuses to fully submit to the “mother“ ideology. But the crazy time will eventually catch up with him. When choosing from two options, none of which is good, make a decision which becomes an excuse to to become the main target on the list of “Czech patriots“ immediately after the war, most of whom are his former protégés. But self-proclaimed judges and executioners are more concerned with his property than justice. Habermann can save at least his wife and child from them
