Heavy Pokondr: Star Boys - CD

The heavyweights of Czech show business – stars of our pop music Těžkej Pokondr – are announcing a big comeback!

This year, Pokondr are celebrating more than twenty years on the scene and are releasing a new album, Star Boys. Perhaps only Kabát and Lucie can compare in terms of the number of albums sold in our country with the duo of Miloš Pokorný and Roman Ondráček. Since 1996, when Pokondr stirred up the stagnant waters of Czech pop with the single 'Saša jede', they have sold over 500,000 albums and for several years in a row were the best-selling artists in the Czech Republic. If we add to this the fact that as the 'godfathers' of morning radio shows they have one of the most listened-to broadcasts on the Czech airwaves, and are also a sought-after hosting duo on television screens, then, in the words of Ladislav Županič from the intro of the new album, we have the honour of presenting the phenomenal duo Těžkej Pokondr.

The new album, Star Boys, can, without exaggeration, be considered one of the gems of their rich discography. In 2017, Pokondři are in great form, once again serving up hits from the near and distant past with Czech lyrics that not only parody the world-famous and domestic hits themselves, but also comment on the world around us with a sense of perspective.

Star Boys, for example, includes I'm Scatman, where Pokondři, with the Czech lyrics Kretén (Idiot) and the collaboration of Matěj Ruppert, have maintained the high standard of the original scat, while also reflecting on social media trends. Kretén is also the album's lead single, accompanied by a music video. Further dance hits are represented by the tracks Má asi křena (Macarena), featuring a guest appearance by Adéla Gondíková, My jsme šoumeni (We Are Family), Už nechcem hulit! (I Like To Move It), and the erotically charged Já su sexy (I'm Too Sexy). Classic rock pieces are represented by Ice Hockey Tiger (Eye Of The Tiger) and Superstar (I Love Rock And Roll). The legendary pop-rock ballad Love Hurts is heard here as Levhart, and the song Easy, made famous by The Commodores and Faith No More, has been reborn as Schízy. The 80s classic Da, Da, Da becomes Blá, blá, blá, and Bakerman by Laid Back is a tribute to the local band J. A. R. with guest Oto Klempíř. For lovers of Italian macho style, there's Hynek Čermák (L'Italiano), and for avid readers, the only representative of domestic pop, the unforgettable film hit Vzhůru k výškám with new lyrics, Úctu knížkám. The 15 tracks on the CD are complemented by last year's charity song Maraton s kňourem (More Than A Woman), Těžkej Pokondr's contribution to the global Movember foundation event.

The lyrics for the Czech versions were written by Xindl X, Lou Fanánek Hagen and, above all, by the "star boys" themselves, Roman Ondráček and Miloš Pokorný.

For the first time in their history, Těžkej Pokondr will also release their new album Star Boys on the grooves of a black vinyl LP.

The digital version of the album does not include the song J. A. R. (Bakerman).
