In the midst of the Great Depression, which nearly brought America to its knees in the 1930s, a hero suddenly emerged who, through sheer determination and an iron will, managed not only to win a second chance for his family and himself, but also to become the idol of an entire nation. That hero of the people was James J. Braddock (Russell Crowe), a man who, despite adversity, was soon to become one of the most inspirational legends in the history of sport. In the early 1930s, this former boxer was broke - like the rest of the American population, hit by a huge economic disaster. His career seemed to be over, he had no money to pay the bills and the only thing that mattered in his life - his family - was in danger. Deep inside, however, his determination still slumbered.
Love, honor and a strong will helped him turn a seemingly impossible dream into reality. Braddock tried to take one last chance to save his family and returned to the ring. No one believed he had the slightest chance of success, but the underrated boxer started winning one fight after another. An ordinary man who had trouble finding work suddenly became an almost mythical, invincible hero and a symbol of the hopes and dreams of people plagued by the economic crisis. His meteoric rise eventually culminated in a fight that no one could have dreamed of at first: Braddock takes on world heavyweight champion Max Baer - an unstoppable boxer who has killed two of his opponents in the ring.
Bonuses: - Cut scenes with commentary by director Ron Howard - Series One - footage and analysis of the actual fight between James Braddock and Max Baer
