Hedwig

When little Hedwig's mother dies, Dad decides to remarry after a year of compulsory mourning. Soon, however, the father leaves the earthly world and this time the "new mother" remarries. Thus begins a cascade of deaths and marriages, at the end of which Hedwig is several generations older than her current parents. The endless round of deaths and subsequent marriages has been going on for sixty years. The parents included a gendarme (who was even Hedvička's original suitor), a cooper, a miller, an actor, a feminist writer and many others. Karel Poláček thus parodies not only the linguistic clichés of idyllic sagas, but also pushes the family peripetias into the realm of absurdity. In the title role: Viola Zink.
