Here are the Lions - DVD

The main character of the story is a racing engineer Štěrba, who crashes his motorcycle and is in danger of his life. His co-workers at the Žofie Mine are waiting anxiously for news from the hospital. The plot returns to the events that preceded the disaster. We thus learn that Štěrba rejected the proposal of his younger colleague Vochoče to use the resources from the old ones. He is arrogant and cannot defend his views properly. Apparently, his fondness for alcohol is also to blame. Despite the ban, Vochoč decides to carry out the plan and sets off with the miners to the mine, where exactly what Štěrba feared happens.
The film stands out not only thanks to a good script, quality cinematography and bravura directing, but also thanks to the performances of Karel Höger, Dana Medřická and Jarmila Smejkalová. It is one of the gems of the 1950s, but it ended up locked in a vault for a few years along with other socially critical films.
