Herring, live herring: Darling creates a landscape - CD

An unusual name, original instruments, an unusual title, and songs that are both elusive and understandable. Avant-garde. Living avant-garde! one might exclaim. The music and lyrics with which Sledě created this magical fishy landscape, over which a green moon rises and then floats as something indispensably soft, are economical, often as minimal as a toy made from an empty sardine tin—in its simplicity, it can be anything.

This description might seem to overlook instrumental skill. But no. That too is exactly where it should be. Wisely cradled in the arms of the music. This is a case where it makes sense to sing in Czech. And a case where it makes sense to listen. A sea of music, a sea of imagination, towards which all the Živé Sledě (Live Herrings) are heading, along with the rivers. It's easy to fall in love with the landscape they flow through and to enjoy returning to it.
