Historical furniture

The second, revised and expanded edition of a unique comprehensive encyclopedia of historical furniture, in which the renowned author not only discusses furniture typology in detail, but along with stylistic classification, also deals with the development and description of structures, joints and materials used. It also describes in detail most of the known decorative techniques, including the technology of surface treatments, especially varnishes and paints, their composition and application based on period sources and recipe books. It provides information on the care and maintenance of antique furniture. The last chapter has also been added, dedicated to the principles of restoration and an informative description of its basic steps for individual types of furniture.

Mgr. Louis SalmonHe studied Art History at Charles University. He worked in museums and heritage conservation his entire professional life. His specialization is conservation and restoration in the field of applied arts and crafts. He is interested in historical decorative techniques and the technologies of their implementation. He is the author of several textbooks for the fields of artistic crafts (New Methods of Museum Conservation, Painting Techniques) and specialist books (Gilding, Stained Glass, Stucco).
