History of psychology

Psychology is sensitive to the object of its scientific inquiry, which is the human mind and its changes in a rapidly evolving world. Data, that she had previously collected, about human sexuality, for example, motivation or the differences between men and women, do not remain permanently valid, so that new concepts are constantly being created, directions and methodological approaches.

Thus, the history of psychology can be used to learn not only about the variability of psychological knowledge, but also about its dependence on the cultural context of the time. The book traces the emergence and internal differentiation of the field and its main trends in the 20th century (behaviourism, Gestaltism, dynamic, phenomenological, transpersonal, cognitive psychology, system theories, etc. ). Postmodern currents in contemporary psychology (feminist, discursive or critical psychology) have not been left out either.

Each of the chapters contains a brief characterization or basic thought paradigm of the respective development period, life stories and main ideas of its important representatives. The individual topics are arranged in a clear and readable manner.

The new edition has been enriched with a number of newly available sources, thanks to which it was possible to supplement both the treatise on modern trends in psychology (neogestaltism, the psychology of self, theories of social representations, social constructionism and others), ...as well as a number of recent personalities.

The publication is intended for all students of psychology and other humanities disciplines, as well as for those interested in psychology from the general public.
