History of Slovakia

The leading Slovak historian and long-time director of the Historical Institute in Bratislava is preparing the history of the Slovak nation and its statehood for the second time in a completely new form. As a specialist in the 19th and 20th centuries, he deals with important emancipation processes in detail and with understanding. The text is brought up to the present day, ending before the last presidential election. The author' s interest is to explain in detail and in a clear manner the difficulties that the Slovak population had to deal with during its existence in many state formations and under the rule of mostly other ethnic groups. With knowledge of the matter, he also explains the complications that the Slovak independent state has faced and is facing after 1993. He also understands the problematic nature of the current situation. The entire text contains, among other things, a brief cultural history and discusses the development of the Slovak language across periods. A very essential component of the text is the analysis of the relationship between Czechs and Slovaks and the reasons that led to mutual support and divisions.
