How weather is created

This book is the second, substantially supplemented and expanded edition of the successful book of the same name by Jaroslav Kopáček and Jan Bednář (Karolinum, 2002). Compared to the first edition, this book places greater emphasis on atmospheric phenomena, especially those appearing in connection with significant to extreme weather events, including tropical cyclones. A completely new chapter has been added on phenomena related to significant atmospheric convection. The reader will learn about the formation of cloud electricity, electrical discharges in the atmosphere, lightning, the structure of storm clouds, the formation of hailstorms, waterspouts, tornadoes, and other related phenomena. At the same time, it addresses some fundamental contemporary meteorological issues, such as the greenhouse effect of the Earth's atmosphere and climate change. The final chapter, which discusses weather forecasting methods and their media presentations, has been extensively updated and modernised. The text is accompanied by more than 50 illustrations.
