Hruby Jan & Kukulin: 7 - CD

Jan Hrubý released an album with his band Kukulín after a long time. The record was given the short name 7. The line-up was newly expanded by the Irish harpist Sean Barry, who introduced himself to Hrubý on his previous solo project Common Worlds.

For most of his past albums, Jan Hrubý sought inspiration in the Northwest - he drew on the musical tradition of the British Isles, or from the imaginary world of the English writer J. R. R. Tolkien. In the book Violin dot Hrubý (Interview of Milan Tesař with Jan Hrubý) he says in connection with the title of his first album Cesta na sever západ: “At that time, there really was no southeast for me, but now I happen to be entering the Balkans. At that time, I was not even interested in the southwest, it was only the northwest. “The penetration into the Balkans is fully reflected in the new album, which contains the Macedonian traditionalist Antice and next to it also the three-movement suite by Jan Kolář, Then in the Balkans.

The band Kukulín went to the recording studio after more than ten years. Her last album so far was the Silmarillion collection from 2003. On her seventh studio record, the band presents itself in a new line-up. Bandleader and two longtime members, Jan Kolář (oboe, English horn, keys, accordion) and Rudu Hálka (accordion), added Irish harpist Sean Barry. Jan Hrubý met him in 2013 on the Common Worlds project. One of the three discs of the so-called triple album contained folk songs from the British Isles by Hrubý and Barry. The new album, marked only by the number 7, contains original compositions by Jan Hrubý, Jan Kolář and Sean Barry, as well as the already mentioned Macedonian traditional and also music by James Horner from the film The Last of the Mohicans.
