I see you are interested in darkness

A captivating, genre-bending bestseller. A chilling story with a criminal plot and strong symbolism that gets deep under your skin. Police psychologist Andriy Hayster travels to a remote, snow-covered town to search for a missing little girl. It gradually becomes clear that a maniac known as the Monster, who regularly preys on young women, is on the loose in the village. However, the local residents are indifferent to his crimes. Neither the corrupt local police officer nor the mayor, typical representatives of the Ukrainian post-Soviet countryside, are dealing with it. Objects like a mysterious police file that changes its contents, or enigmatic characters, bring a fantastical atmosphere to the story. This admirably balanced and thrilling novel blends elements of horror, satire, psychological drama, war literature, and fantasy, and is enriched with references to classic literary works from Dante to de Saint-Exupéry, from Greek mythology to contemporary pop culture.
